2008 - Term 4
Cricketers Just Miss Out - The boys were defeated by a mere 3 runs in the State Final of the Small Schools SAPSASA Knock Out cricket competition. So close! A fantastic achievement though, to make it through to the finals was a credit to their skill and determination to succeed.
Andy Thomas session - On Wednesday of wk 7 around 20 interested students took part in a State wide video forum using the Resource Centre Smartboard with South Australian astronaut, Andy Thomas. The session was extremely informative.
Cricket Success - Clapham PS through to the Grand Final of small schools SAPSASA Cricket Knock Out Competition after winning their game on Tuesday (11/11/08) against Murraylands Christian College.
Maths champs - Two of our students, one from Yr 4 and the other from Yr 5, received medals at our Week 3 assembly for scoring the highest score for their year level in SA and NT with the ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments in Schools) Maths test conducted in Term 3. There were over 2 500 participants in these competitions. A fantastic achievement!!
Koalas spotted - Much to the delight of children at the school this week (week 3), two adult koalas and a baby koala have been trying to snooze in our gum trees close to the school.

Chess Final - The Interschool Chess team took part in the State Finals in Week 2 and came a commendable = 5th out of 9 schools. We were just 1.5 points from the 2nd placed team. A close competition!
New Smartboard - The Japanese room has the latest addition to our Smartboard "collection." All students in the school now have access to this resource at least twice a week.
2008 - Term 3
Soccer Silver Medallists - On Monday the 23rd we took part on the Grand Final of the SAPSASA Small Schools Knockout soccer competition at Marden sports complex losing to St Mary Magdalene's from Elizabeth 3:1. The boys played extremely well and over the last two terms have been a credit to both themselves and the school.
Chess Stars - In an exciting last week of term the Interschool chess team won the SW Zone competition and a recount of the B Grade State Final results played on the 12th of September saw us claim equal first! State Champions!!
Science Award - Congratulations to one of our Yr 2 students, Jedd Birdseye, who received a Sponsor's Award for his entry in the Oliphant Science Awards. His poster can be seen on the Students page.

Sport Success - Our SAPSASA Knock-Out soccer team just won their 5th game, a State small schools semi final. We are through to the Grand Final to be played on the 23rd of September.
Our B Grade chess team took part in the State Finals on the 12th of September and came second. A fantastic achievement!
Opening of the new Social Space - This took place last week ( 12/9/08). Click here to see the flyer. It was very successful.
New Smartboard and Media Centre PC- The Resource Centre now has a large wall mounted Smartboard that is in great demand. This together with a new the media dedicated PC allows live or recorded TV streaming on any of the Smartboards in the school.
New Staff - We are pleased to welcome a new staff member , Deanne Woodards to Clapham.
Principal Retires - Principal Richard Baxter has retired with the completion of Term 2. Deputy Rod Sutherland is the Acting Principal and coordinator, Kym Palka will be Acting Deputy for Term 3.
Term 2
Another Smartboard - The first of this year's Smartboards has been ordered and will be located in the Resource Centre
Successful Sports Day - The rescheduled Sports Day took place on Friday of Week 1 and was another successful day with perfect weather this time round.
Social Space Completed - The last of the plantings is occurring now in week 3. It looks fantastic.
New Staff - We welcome Evelyn Vanis to take Special Needs, Aleksandra Wozniak with ESL and Jenni Bayliss for the first 4 weeks in Room 1.

Training for Parents.
“In 2007 we offered training with ICT topics such as "Buying and Using a Digital Camera, Internet Security and Video Editing with Home Movies." . This service to parents and members of the community is aimed at keeping you as parents up to date with your ICT skills as well as providing a source of fundraising for ICT projects within the school. A small fee was charged which helped support the ICT budget. The sessions were run by a parent who is also a TAFE lecturer. Check the Latest News section above for any 2008 workshops.

Becoming More Involved
“Clapham Primary School is a small supportive community where parent help is always appreciated.
We are currently in need of parents support in our Sports Committee. If you would like to be involved please inform the school at your earliest convenience. “
Governing Council
The Governing Council is jointly responsible,
with the Principal, for the Governance of the school
Its roles are to:
• formulate and oversee strategic planning for the school
• determine policies for the school
• manage the financial resources available to the school
• present operational plans and reports to the school community and to the Minister
There are a number of committees which advise and report to the Governing Council. These committees may change from year to year. The Executive Committee and the Finance Committee are required under the Constitution. Other current committees include – Asset Management and Development (Marketing), Education, ICT, Parents and Friends, Services, (Canteen and Uniform), Sports, OSHC and Grounds Development.
The Governing Council usually meets three times a term with an AGM held early in the year.
Recently, the Governing Council was pleased to support the development of the School band with funding for the purchase of their instruments.
Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)
Information about the Term and Holiday programs run by OSHC at Clapham will be provided before the end of September.
